Summarizing Meetings
Generate AI-powered summaries from your meeting transcripts
How Summaries Work
Clerk uses AI to analyze your meeting transcript and your personal notes to generate a comprehensive summary. The summary format is determined by the template you choose, making it easy to get consistent, well-structured meeting documentation.
- • The full meeting transcript from audio recording
- • Your personal notes and observations
- • Context from your profile (job role, company, etc.)
- • Structure and format from your chosen template
Generating a Summary
1Complete Your Meeting
First, finish recording your meeting and add any personal notes you want to include. The more context you provide, the better the summary will be.
2Click "Summarize"
Find the "Summarize" button in the meeting interface and click it. This will open a dialog where you can choose your template and customize the summary.
3Select a Template
Choose from your available templates. Your default template will be pre-selected, but you can choose a different one if this meeting type requires a different format.
- • Use specialized templates for specific meeting types
- • Choose detailed templates for important meetings
- • Use concise templates for quick check-ins
- • Create custom templates for recurring meeting formats
4Add Custom Instructions (Optional)
You can add specific instructions for this summary only. For example, you might want to emphasize certain topics or request a particular focus for this meeting.
Example Custom Instructions:
- • "Focus on the technical implementation details"
- • "Highlight any risks or concerns mentioned"
- • "Include all specific dates and deadlines"
- • "Emphasize budget and resource discussions"
5Generate and Review
Click "Generate Summary" and wait a moment while the AI processes your meeting. The summary will replace any existing summary for this meeting.
Working with Summaries
Viewing Summaries
Once generated, your summary appears in the "Summary" section of the meeting view. You can access it anytime by viewing the meeting from your Notes list.
Regenerating Summaries
You can regenerate a summary at any time by clicking "Summarize" again. This is useful if you:
- • Added more notes after the initial summary
- • Want to try a different template
- • Need to emphasize different aspects
- • Want to improve the summary with better instructions
Sharing Summaries
You can copy the summary text and share it via email, Slack, or any other communication tool your team uses. The markdown formatting makes it easy to paste into most platforms.
Tips for Better Summaries
Complete Your Profile
Fill out your profile information in Settings. The AI uses your job role, company, and additional context to generate more relevant summaries.
Take Good Notes
The more detailed your personal notes, the better the summary. Include action items, decisions, and important context that might not be clear from the transcript alone.
Use Appropriate Templates
Match the template to your meeting type. Don't use a detailed project planning template for a quick standup, and vice versa.
Review and Edit
While the AI summaries are generally accurate, always review them for correctness. You can regenerate if needed or manually edit the summary text.
Iterate on Templates
If summaries aren't meeting your needs, refine your templates. Better template instructions lead to better summaries over time.
